Technical research
 
Deep UV LED has just started. Different from the mature blue LED, the core material of UV LED has lower in content and higher Al content, which makes the problems of high defect density in epitaxial layer, low hole concentration in p-AlGaN material, strong polarization effect, unbalanced carrier transport and so on extremely prominent. Therefore, the luminous efficiency of UV LED is still far lower than that of mature blue LED. When the emission wavelength is lower than 370nm, UV LED is facing the problem of sudden decline in emission efficiency, which has become the biggest obstacle to its large-scale application.
 
At present, although much progress has been made in technical research, there are still many technical bottlenecks in terms of power, volume energy conversion, materials, equipment and cost price of deep UV LED, which urgently needs further breakthroughs by technical R & D personnel.

As the sterilization of deep UV LED is still in its infancy, there is no national mandatory implementation standard at present. Only the standard of traditional low-voltage UV sterilization mercury lamp is referred to. The difference of technical characteristics between the two determines that it is impossible to copy and use it. Therefore, the Standardization Committee of the national semiconductor lighting engineering R & D and Industry Alliance (CSA) organized the preparation of the report on the standardization system of ultraviolet LED, and launched the construction of standards such as the terms and definitions of ultraviolet LED technology and application, and the report on ultraviolet LED sterilization and disinfection technology. The group standard of UVC led drinking water sterilization device is open for comments. It is understood that the standard clearly stipulates the UVC led drinking water sterilization device, that is, the sterilization device for drinking water treatment composed of ultraviolet light-emitting diode unit, driving power supply and control unit with wavelength range of 260nm-280nm. In addition, in the technical requirements, the standard makes corresponding requirements on 9 aspects, such as service conditions, appearance, structure, materials, health and safety, purified water flow, sterilization effect, effluent quality, functional life and environmental protection, so as to ensure the sterilization quality of drinking water.
 
It can be seen that the UV LED standard system is gradually being built, but these standards are far from enough to adapt to the current development of UV LED.
